The home side equalised before half time and then pressed the visitors in the second half, but stand-in keeper Josh Allan denied them a number of good saves. In a dramatic finale Sunderland broke quickly, Kettley fed George Johnston who scored with the last hit of the game.

Billingham 1sts 6 Sunderland 4ths 0
Sunderland struggled to come to terms with strong opposition. Although some players have left the club, a number of the opponents played in League 1 last season. Billingham were quickly in their stride, scoring early and were three up by half time. Sunderland enjoyed their best period just after half-time before giving possession away too easily and were made to pay twice in quick succession. Although the home side enjoyed most of the possession Sunderland's had four or five short corners with Liddle unlucky, having two saved on the line by the full-back.
MOM. I McGinley who worked hard to provide an outlet for a stretched defence.
Wally. M Brown for forgetting trainers and having to play in shoes.
